Course Overview

Certificate in Health Records and IT Level 5 is a Competency-based TVET program that is offered at Anglican Medical Training College- Maseno

The course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and maintain medical records, patient registration, apply data collection, performing daily bed returns in hospitals , disease coding and indexing and to understand the principles of health information management and the complexity of the healthcare systems, to work in both private and public informatic sectors of the economy.

Examination

Our students will have their exams administered internally by Anglican Medical Training College- Maseno and an external exam administered by TVET/CDACC.

Duration: This course will take a maximum of up to one and a half years which will give five (5) trimesters inclusion of theory learning and practical experience in a hospital setup.

January, May and September

Course objectives

Upon completion of the Certificate in Health Records, students will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of health informatics to manage and maintain medical records
  • Analyze epidemiological disease patterns and trends
  • Use advanced statistics to interpret health data
  • Manage health systems and resources
  • Apply health economics to healthcare decision-making
  • Monitor and evaluate health projects

MEAN GRADE: D+

  • D+ English/Kiswahili     
  • D- In Mathematics
  • Working experience of 2 years in a Health Record and Information Department.
  • Recommendation letter from Health Records & Information Officer in Charge of the facility.
  • Letter of appointment to the current position.
